Bangladesh confirmed their Asia Cup 2022 berth by moving into the final of the Men’s AHF Cup with an 8-1 thrashing of Kazakhstan in the second semi-final at the Gelora Bung Karno Hockey Field (pitch-1) in Jakarta, Indonesia on Saturday.
Bangladesh will take on Oman, who defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in another semi-final of the day, in the final today and a win will confirm their fourth consecutive title win in the competition.
By reaching the AHF Cup final, both the finalists confirmed their qualification for the next Asia Cup 2022 and joined automatic qualifiers – India, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan and hosts Indonesia.
Defender Ashraful Islam, who struck his first treble in Bangladesh’s 6-2 win against Iran in their Pool B match on March 15, struck another hat-trick with four goals from penalty corners against Kazakhstan in the semi-final.
Another defender Khorshadur Rahman scored a brace also from penalty corners while forward Rashel Mahmud Jimmy and defender Shohanur Rahman Sobuj the other two field goals.
Bangladesh dominated the first quarter by 2-0 and went to break after second quarter with a 3-0 lead as Ashraful scored in the seventh and ninth minutes before Khorshad extended the margin in the 34th minute.
Ashraful completed his hat-trick in the40th minute and scored his fourth and team’s fifth goal in the next minute while Khorshad completed his brace in the 45th minute for the team’s 6-0 lead after the third quarter. Jimmy and Sobuj scored in the 49th and 51st minutes respectively before Kazakhstani Aman Yelubayev scored a consolation field goal in the 55th minute.
