Some businesses will close for the Queen’s funeral
Supermarkets and other businesses are set to shut for the Queen’s funeral on Monday 19 September out of respect for the late monarch.
Businesses and schools are set to close after King Charles III declared a bank holiday for his mother’s funeral.
Some of the UK’s biggest chains have announced they will close to allow staff and customers to pay respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
All Aldi and Lidl stores in the UK will close on Monday 19 September to allow staff to pay tribute to the Queen.
Sainsbury’s has confirmed its stores will close, telling ITV that “our convenience stores and petrol filling stations will be open from 5pm-10pm to allow our customers to pick up essential items.”
Tesco has confirmed its large stores and pharmacies will be closed, whilst Asda will shut until 5pm. Morrisons will shut all of its supermarkets before reopening petrol pumps at 5pm.
Argos, Poundland, M&S and Dunelm have also been reported nationally as closing stores.
Locally, the Your Trust leisure centres across the borough will be closed to allow all staff, members and customers to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate her reign, while marking the final day of the period of national mourning.
McDonald's restaurants will be closed until 5pm on the day of the funeral.
Royal Mail has also announced it will not be making deliveries on the day of the service.
A two minutes' silence will be held at midday next Monday for the Queen's state funeral.
Public transport is also affected, with many bus services running a Sunday service.
