‘Energy crisis will destroy viable firms’ | Business – The Times

Viable businesses will be forced to the brink of collapse unless the government provides urgent help to support companies and consumers through the energy crisis, Britain’s biggest business groups have warned.
The calls for state intervention came after the head of EDF Energy’s retail business warned yesterday that the UK faces a “dramatic and catastrophic winter for customers”. Philippe Commaret, EDF’s managing director for customers, proposed help for homeowners to insulate their houses and a VAT cut for small businesses as energy prices are due to rise further from already record levels.
The CBI said that with one in three employers expecting soaring energy bills to act as a barrier to growth, ministers must “explore all options for navigating the crisis”. The Federation of Small
