Field Hockey Travels to Kent State for MAC Opener – App State Athletics

Field Hockey
KENT, OHIO – App State field hockey (3-2) is headed to assistant coach Azure Fernsler‘s alma mater, Kent State (2-4), for its Mid-American Conference opener on Sunday at noon.
Sunday’s game can be streamed live on BoxCast and live stats will be available to follow along.
Last season, the Golden Flashes, ranked No. 22 at the time, came to Boone, N.C. and had a 1-0 lead before App State’s Pauline Mangold scored on a corner play as the clock expired to force overtime. Kent State edged past the Mountaineers in the extra period.
Tomorrow, the Mountaineers will play their fourth straight road game after a hot start in their first two games at home. App State has outscored its opponents 12-5 in goals so far and 11 of the 12 goals have been assisted.
Goalkeeper Addie Clark is making headlines after earning a new career high in saves (13) against the No. 16 Blue Devils last weekend. Clark leads the MAC in save percentage (.892) and shutouts (2) among goalkeepers who have played at least two games this season.
Carli Ciocco leads the MAC in saves with six, tying her with Friederike Stegen for ninth all-time at App State in single-season assists.
Kent State opened the season with an impressive 1-0 win over Indiana and has also defeated Bucknell 3-2. Maia Sarrabayrouse leads the squad in points with five, having scored two goals and assisting another this season.
Both teams can expect to see a lot of saves, as the Golden Flashes’ goalkeeper Cecile Van Eijck leads the MAC in saves per game (8.33) with Clark right behind her (6.6).
After Sunday’s game, the Mountaineers will return for a two-game home stand. App State will host CMU on Sept. 23 at 5 p.m. and Wake Forest on Sept. 25 at noon.
