Kerry Collins is back on a football field.
The former Penn State quarterback is set to work as the volunteer quarterbacks coach for Franklin High School in Tennessee this fall.
“This is my first foray into coaching,” Collins reportedly said. “I’ve enjoyed it. Being around quarterbacks and the offense and competing, using my football brain again has been fun. I’ve enjoyed getting to know the quarterbacks and imparting some of the extensive wisdom I’ve gotten over the years.”
Collins told the site he is most looking forward to getting back underneath the Friday night lights and working with “good kids.”
“We have a lot of good kids on this roster and they worked hard,” he said. “I’m excited for this season.”
Collins, 49, is a native of Lebanon and he played his high school football at Wilson.
He was the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and an All-American in 1994 before being taken in the first round, fifth-overall, by the Carolina Panthers in 1995. He was a two-time Pro Bowler who passed for 40,922 yards with 208 touchdowns and 196 interceptions across a career that wrapped up in 2011 with the Indianapolis Colts.
He also had stints with the New Orleans Saints, the then Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans and New York Giants.
