Leading business and financial advisory firm Grant Thornton UK LLP has appointed Matt Buckingham as Head of Commercial Audit in Birmingham.
Matt, who joined the firm as a partner in 2019, will be based at Grant Thornton’s recently opened 17th floor office at 103 Colmore Row. In his new role, he will be responsible for a team of approximately 120 auditors working across a wide range of different business types and sectors.
Matt has built up 27 years of audit experience in Birmingham, working closely with the city’s businesses and supporting a wide range of plc, private-equity backed companies, mid-market and family owned businesses.
Helping to grow the region’s businesses will remain a key aspect of Matt’s role alongside people focused responsibilities, such as supporting a strong office culture and fostering an environment for young talent to develop.
Matt Buckingham, Head of Commercial Audit at Grant Thornton in Birmingham, said: “We are proud of the agile, people-focused working environment that we are growing every day at Grant Thornton and I’m looking forward to helping make this an even more creative and supportive place for our team members in my new role.
“What’s more, there’s a wide range of dynamic and interesting businesses in the region that makes this a place like no other. Despite the ongoing challenges that many companies are facing, the pipeline of activity remains positive, with businesses eager to grow and explore new ideas and ways of working.
“Thanks to our expertise and similar willingness to explore new approaches, we’re well placed to provide the advice and insights that the Midlands’ businesses need. For example, we’re investing in digital audits and new technologies to ensure that the quality and efficiency of audits is as high as possible.”
Sue Knight, Partner and Practice Leader at Grant Thornton in the Midlands, said: “We know that while the world of work has changed over the last two years, the office still has a fundamental role to play in attracting the best talent and nurturing the career development of our people.
“This is one of the reasons why I’m so excited to work with Matt in his new role, as not only is his significant amount of experience in the local market ideal for providing our clients with highly valuable insights but he has a clear commitment to supporting our team and ensuring that we provide a vibrant, inclusive and collaborative space.”
