How does the Big 12 stack up in the latest USA TODAY Sports 1-131 re-rank after week 3? – Sooners Wire

The Big 12 conference has had a solid start to the 2022 season. They’ve picked up some big wins, mostly thanks to Kansas, but Texas had a strong showing in their matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide, even though it was in a loss.
In USA TODAY Sports’ latest 1-131 re-rank, the Big 12 has seven teams ranked within the top 42 of Paul Myerberg’s weekly ranking.
Sep 17, 2022; Morgantown, West Virginia, USA; West Virginia Mountaineers defensive lineman Dante Stills (55) leads the team onto the field prior to their game against the Towson Tigers at Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium. Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports
West Virginia got in the win column, and though it was a win over lowly Towson, it was as dominant as it should have been.
Sep 2, 2022; Boulder, Colorado, USA; TCU Horned Frogs wide receiver Derius Davis (11) celebrates his touchdown with quarterback Max Duggan (15) in the fourth quarter against the Colorado Buffaloes at Folsom Field. Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports
TCU had the week off but has a big cross-town matchup with the SMU Mustangs.
Sep 17, 2022; Raleigh, North Carolina, USA; Texas Tech Red Raiders running back SaRodorick Thompson (4) is tackled for a loss by North Carolina State Wolfpack defensive back Tanner Ingle (10) during the first half at Carter-Finley Stadium. Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports
A disappointing loss on the road for the Red Raiders, but they don’t have time to wallow, as they get set to host the Texas Longhorns.
Sep 17, 2022; Manhattan, Kansas, USA; Kansas State Wildcats quarterback Adrian Martinez (9) is tripped up by Tulane Green Wave defensive back Lance Robinson (7) during the third quarter at Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium. Scott Sewell-USA TODAY Sports
Big yikes. Not how you want to play just before going on the road to face the Oklahoma Sooners.
Sep 17, 2022; Houston, Texas, USA; Kansas Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels (6) runs with the ball to score a touchdown as Houston Cougars defensive lineman Nelson Ceaser (9) attempts to make a tackle during the third quarter at TDECU Stadium. Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports
How good will Kansas be? The Jayhawks are currently fifth in the nation in scoring and have picked up huge road wins over West Virginia and Houston. They get another opportunity to prove their worth vs. the 3-0 Duke Blue Devils.

Iowa State is showing something through three weeks of the 2022 season. That road trip to Ames is looking more and more ominous.
Sep 17, 2022; Austin, Texas, USA; Texas Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson (5) runs for a touchdown against the UTSA Roadrunners during the fourth quarter at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. John Gutierrez-USA TODAY Sports
Texas is playing good football. We’ll find out more about this program when they go on the road to play Texas Tech in Lubbock.
Sep 17, 2022; Waco, Texas, USA; Baylor Bears running back Richard Reese (29) scores a touchdown against the Texas State Bobcats during the second half at McLane Stadium. Chris Jones-USA TODAY Sports
This ranking is more reflective of Baylor’s loss to BYU and the Cougars’ loss to Oregon than anything the Bears did this week.
Sep 17, 2022; Stillwater, Oklahoma, USA; Oklahoma State Cowboys quarterback Gunnar Gundy (12) throws against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions during the third quarter at Boone Pickens Stadium. OSU won 63-7. Nathan J. Fish-USA TODAY Sports
The Cowboys are putting up a bunch of points this season as part of their 3-0 start.
Sep 17, 2022; Lincoln, Nebraska, USA; Oklahoma Sooners defensive back Key Lawrence (12) reacts after making an interception during the second half against the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Memorial Stadium. Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports
The Oklahoma Sooners did what they were supposed to do to a bad Nebraska Cornhuskers team. Dominate them. Nobody in the top four lost, so there wasn’t an opportunity to move up.
