CAIRO – 15 September 2022: Leading US technology company IBM has become a technology partner to the Climate Change Conference (COP27) set to be held in Egypt in November as per an MoU signed with Assistant Foreign Minister Ashraf Ibrahim on Wednesday.
During the conference, IBM is set to display the means of benefiting from technology and advisory services to assist leaders of governments and companies in achieving balance between main goals of institutions and the sustainable development requirements.
This comes while sticking to the organizational laws and measures without impacting profits, the company said in a statement.
General Manager for IBM Egypt Marwa Abbas signed the MoU with Ibrahim.
Earlier, Vodafone and Boston Consulting Group have been also named exclusive COP27 partners as per separate MoUs. Vodafone will serve as a partner for communications during the conference, while Boston Consulting Group will be a consulting partner.
Egypt is preparing to host COP27 between 6 and 18 November and has been keen to build on the success of Glasgow summit (COP26) in a bid to turn climate pledges into actions.
In July, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi delivered a speech at the high-level session of the Berlin-hosted Petersburg Climate Dialogue, where he affirmed that Egypt will spare no effort to make the COP27 a success.
Sisi said that recent climate change reports indicate that exerted efforts are still insufficient, “and that we must save the earth for future generations.” Sisi also noted that the world needs a fair transition to green and renewable energy.
“We must think about the losses incurred by developing countries, especially small countries in African countries. It is important that we think about doing more in terms of financing, as richer countries should play a bigger role regarding Climate change” Sisi said.
