LSU falls in USA TODAY Sports college football re-rank after Week 2 – LSU Wire

LSU looked like a much-improved football team on Saturday night, but even a dominating win over Southern can’t undo the disappointing Week 1 loss to Florida State.
The Tigers took quite a hit in the USA TODAY Sports rankings of all 131 FBS teams last week, and despite the big win, they fell even further in this week’s edition. Now, LSU (1-1) sits at No. 56, three spots lower than it did in last week’s rankings from Paul Myerberg.
It’s disappointing to see after a performance against the Jaguars that was impressive, even given the quality of the opponent. The Tigers scored 37 points in the first quarter, the most in a single quarter in program history.
They’ll have the chance to rise in the rankings quite a bit this week, though. Mississippi State (No. 38) comes to Baton Rouge to open SEC play on Saturday night fresh off a road win against Arizona. A win in that game — as a home underdog, no less — would go a long way to rehabilitate the national perception of this year’s Tigers team.
