Meaningful Hockey In August? 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship Set To (Re)Start – NoVa Caps

Take 2. Yes, that’s right. It’s nearly August and we are getting excited for meaningful hockey in the next few weeks, as the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton kicks off (again) August 9 and runs to August 20.
You may recall, the originally scheduled event back in December was cancelled in the middle of the tournament after several teams experienced outbreaks of Covid-19. The tournament will now be replayed in it’s entirety.
As of now, the only Capitals prospect somewhat set to participate will be Oskar Magnusson with Team Sweden, although trouts predatory camps are just getting set to start.

Canada, Finland, Czechia, Slovakia and Latvia will play in Group A while the United States, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and Austria will compete in Group B. The top-four teams if each group will make the quarter-finals.
All games will be played at Rogers Place in Edmonton, with usually two or three games per day during the preliminary round that will end on 15 August. The four quarter-final games will be played on August 17 with Canada playing the third quarter-final game at 17:00 if qualified.
The semi-final games follow on 19 August. Host Canada if qualified or the team with the best preliminary-round records otherwise will play the early semi-final game at 14:00. The second semi-final game will be played at 18:00. The medal games are set for August 20.
It will be the first time since 1988 that all World Juniors games will be held at one venue with fans in attendance.
With the release of the game schedule single-game tickets have been released and can be purchased for as low as $40 while packages remain available. Click here to buy tickets.

YES, YES and YES finally! And will be nice to see Oskar Magnusson play.
Roger that! Christmas in August.
I was in favor of the lockdowns of 2020 and I’m sure our collective response saved possibly hundreds of thousands of lives around the world. But not it has become endemic and we’ll have to live with it. We can’t cancel big things because there is an outbreak, but, because the conditions remain right for new pandemics to emerge (and they almost certainly will and much sooner than the 100 year interval between this one and the Spanish Flu) we should design our public spaces to make it less necessary to lock everything down. We can do this with thoughtfully designed interior spaces that provide air circulation, fresh air in abundance, and the latest in filtration.
