A service to mark the local reading of the Proclamation of the new Sovereign will be held in Loughborough on Sunday.
The Proclamation of King Charles III becoming the new monarch will be read by the Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, at 2pm at the Carillon Tower in Queen’s Park.
The open-air service will be attended by local dignitaries including the Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Dr Nik Kotecha OBE. Dignitaries will form a procession to enter the park at 1.45pm.
Members of the public are invited to attend the service but are advised they may need to arrive in good time as the park may be busy. The Carillon will be played before the service.
People are being advised that if they wish to lay flowers in Loughborough town centre, they should be laid at the Carillon Tower. Laying of flowers at the tower will be paused at 1pm on the day of the Proclamation service, until after the service.
The nation has been in mourning since the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, September 8.
As part of the events to mark the death of Her Majesty, a wreath will be laid at the Carillon Tower in Queen’s Park on Saturday at 10am.
The Union Flag is currently being flown at half-mast at Council buildings, but it will be raised to mast-head between 9am and 10.30am on Saturday to mark the official Proclamation of King Charles III. The flag will be lowered again at 1pm on Sunday, September 11 until after the Queen’s funeral.
Books of Condolence have been opened at Charnwood Borough Council’s offices in Loughborough and at Loughborough Town Hall. The Books of Condolence will remain open until 5pm on the day following The Queen’s funeral. The Council offices are closed at weekends but the town hall will be open and the books will be available to sign.
