Where Florida stands in the latest USA TODAY Sports college football re-rank – Gators Wire

After seeing dips in both major polls following a Week 2 loss to the Kentucky Wildcats, the Florida Gators unsurprisingly fell three spots to No. 16 in the latest college football re-rank from USA TODAY Sports.
While it’s still a positive to be ranked among the top 25 teams in college football, Florida could have been ranked much higher with a win. Kentucky’s 2-0 start has the Wildcats up to No. 7 in the re-rank, and they didn’t beat Utah to start the season.
Now Florida must hope for UK to make a mistake to reclaim the No. 2 spot in the SEC East. Kentucky and Arkansas are both ranked ahead of UF, and Alabama and Georgia sit at Nos. 1 and 2 overall.
Florida’s next best chance to move up a few spots should be its matchup with Tennessee in two weeks. Unfortunately, no amount of beating up on USF will convince anyone that Florida is elite, but the Volunteers have some hype behind them and are currently ranked No. 22 by USA TODAY Sports.
Ole Miss rounds out the top 25 as the seventh SEC team on the list, and Texas A&M fell to No. 27 after losing to Appalachian State. As far as in-state rivals go, Florida State is ranked No. 35 and Miami is outside of the top 40.
