Legendary Australia National Cricket Team captain Ricky Ponting, while talking about the rivalry between India National Cricket Team and Pakistan National Cricket Team, said that the Test cricket rivalry between the countries will be the pinnacle of Test cricket as the marquee Ashes is for the England National Cricket Team and Australia National Cricket Team.
The India-Pakistan rivalry is one of the biggest rivalries in the history of the game. The Men In Blue and Men In Green are set to lock horns in upcoming the Asia Cup 2022 on August 28 in Dubai and they are expected to face each other multiple times during the tournament if things go normal. Also, they are set to lock horns during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

During the latest episode of The ICC Review, Ponting was asked what makes the rivalry between India and Pakistan so great. The legendary Australian skipper also talked about the high-profile Ashes rivalry between Australia and England, which he has been part of on numerous occasions.
“To be totally honest it’s one that we’ve been starved of, haven’t we looking back at the last 15 or 20 years,” Ponting said in the latest episode of The ICC Review.
“As a cricket lover like I am and a cricket observer, any time those sorts of battles come up it’s almost always nice to sit back and watch because everything just goes up a notch, doesn’t it?,” he added.
During the same conversation, Ponting was asked how this already great India-Pakistan rivalry would be even further strengthened. He said that he would love to see the addition of Test cricket games in the India-Pakistan rivalry so that it can be further bolstered.
“When I think about rivalries, Australia and England and Ashes cricket is the pinnacle I’ve always thought of for our Test match game,” Ponting noted.
“I’m sure India and Pakistanis will say the same about that and the actual rivalry would be the pinnacle of Test match cricket for those two countries as well,” he added.
The last time India National Cricket Team and Pakistan National Cricket Team played a game in Test cricket was in 2007 in Bengaluru, where the high-scoring game ended in a draw.
