Defender Khorshadur Rahman stuck a hat-trick as Bangladesh beat upper-ranked Oman 3-2 in their final Pool B match to emerge pool champions of the Men’s AHF Cup 2022 at the Gelora Bung Karno Hockey Field (pitch-1) in Jakarta, Indonesia on Thursday.
Bangladesh dominated the first quarter as Khorshad struck in the eighth minute from a penalty corner but the defending champions were pushed back to 1-2 as Oman’s Rashad Al Fazari and Fahad Al Lawati scored one field goal each in the 32nd and 48th minutes respectively.
Khorshad scored a brace within a span of two minutes as he scored his second goal from a penalty corner in the 56th minute before confirming Bangladesh’s win by scoring from a penalty stroke in the 58th minute.
With the day’s win, Bangladesh, who earlier confirmed their semi-final berth after a 6-2 win against Iran on Tuesday, ended their pool with an all-win run.
Malaysian coach Iman Gobinathan Krishnamurthy’s charges will play the second semi-final on March 19 against Pool A runners-up Kazakhstan of the nine-team competition, which is the qualifying event for the next Asia Cup.
With an eye of clinching the fourth straight title, Bangladesh started their campaign with a 7-2 win against hosts Indonesia before thrashing Singapore 7-0 in their next game.
